This factsheet situates the origin of Intersectionality within Black feminism and explains the concept of Intersectionality was developed to support Black women in their experience of intersectional discrimination on the basis of race and gender. The factsheet highlights the failure of social movements to intersect patriarchy within anti-racist efforts and racism within (white) feminist efforts to demonstrate the urgent need for an Intersectional approach in movements for change.
